Fintech Payment Gateway
Secure, scalable payment gateway processing millions of transactions daily with 99.99% uptime and advanced fraud detection capabilities.

Project Background & Objectives
Fintech Infrastructure Company was a 4-year-old payment infrastructure company with strong merchant relationships but a technical stack that could not scale to meet their growth ambitions. At 2.1 million daily transactions, their gateway was operating at 94% peak capacity — one flash-sale event away from a catastrophic service outage. Fraud losses were running at 1.2% of transaction value, triple the industry benchmark. And a Series B investor had conditioned their $18M funding round on Fintech Infrastructure Company achieving PCI-DSS Level 1 certification within 6 months. Dristi Technologies rebuilt their payment processing core, hardened their security posture, and delivered a gateway capable of handling 10 million daily transactions with 99.99% availability.
Payment gateway reliability is measured in nines, but payment gateway trust is measured in milliseconds. Merchants and consumers abandon a checkout at the first sign of latency. We optimised transaction processing to under 180ms median response — and that invisibility is the product.
What Problem Were We Solving?
Fintech Infrastructure Company's existing gateway was a monolithic Java application deployed on 8 physical servers with no horizontal scaling capability. A single Black Friday event caused 14 minutes of complete downtime and ₹3.8 crore in unprocessed transactions. Their fraud detection was a static rule engine with a 4.7% false positive rate — blocking legitimate transactions and frustrating genuine customers. The PCI-DSS Level 1 audit identified 34 findings, including critical gaps in cardholder data encryption and audit log completeness. A competitor had just announced a 200ms transaction processing guarantee; Fintech Infrastructure Company's median was 890ms.
How We Delivered Results
We re-architected the gateway as a horizontally scalable microservices system deployed on Kubernetes with auto-scaling across 3 AWS availability zones. Apache Kafka handles the transaction event stream, enabling the system to absorb sudden traffic spikes without queue buildup. A machine learning fraud detection model — trained on 180 million historical transactions — achieves 95% fraud detection with a 0.3% false positive rate, down from 4.7%. All cardholder data is tokenised at the point of entry using a Vault-based secrets management system. The gateway processes transactions in 160ms median response time.
Performed a full architectural review and PCI-DSS audit, documented all 34 compliance gaps, and designed a target architecture prioritising security controls and horizontal scalability.
Decomposed the monolith into 11 bounded-context microservices, implemented Kafka event streaming for transaction processing, and established Kubernetes auto-scaling policies.
Trained a gradient boosted fraud detection model on 180M historical transactions, integrated Vault for cardholder data tokenisation, and implemented real-time risk scoring for every transaction.
Remediated all 34 audit findings, achieved PCI-DSS Level 1 certification on the first submission, and ran 30 days of load testing to validate 15M transaction/day capacity headroom.
Built With Industry-Leading Tools
Every technology was selected for its production readiness, scalability potential, and fit with Fintech Infrastructure Company's long-term roadmap.
In Their Own Words
“Our Series B was conditional on PCI-DSS Level 1. We were 34 findings away and 6 months from the deadline. Dristi Technologies delivered the certification with three weeks to spare and built a gateway that is genuinely better than what any of our competitors are running. The investors noticed.”
